WHERE DID YOU COME UP WITH THE CONCEPT OF ROP?

We started with a simple question: “What is the ROI of travel?”

But every talk track brought us back to people, and when we remembered the highest cost for companies is not travel it is people, we realized the disconnect that for many, talent is not the #1 topic being spoken about when it comes to the future of work. And we wanted to bring it back into focus, and provide data to support the argument.

It is our mission, and sincere hope, to empower travel managers and decision makers alike to make better educated decisions for their organizations so they may excel at the metric, along with Cost and Carbon, of most importance in this new age.


So, rather than asking “what is the value of travel?”, the better question decision makers should really be asking is: “what is the value of the human connection?”.  That answer, is Return On People, and is how we will connect the future of travel.

HOW DO I COLLATE THE NUMBERS REQUIRED FOR THE CALCULATORS FROM MY COMPANY?

From our experience, there is not a single source within a company that houses all of the information that our calculators require.

We have therefore provided referenced industry averages, to help guide you where you cannot find all of the data for your company.

We also believe there is no problem with an educated guess to provoke high level discussions before deeper analysis.

IS THE DATA I ENTER INTO THE CALCULATOR SECURE?

The GBTA ladders team that owns this website does not collate any data you add onto the website unless you choose to share it with us through the forms.

WHAT A RETURN TO CORPORATE TRAVEL MEAN FOR THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY

  • Pre Covid, the corporate travel industry was estimated to be a $1.4 trillion industry

  • Therefore, every day at a 95% reduction (the lowest point of travel seen through Covid) means $2.9 billion not going into the industry

  • $700 billion annually would disappear if Bill Gates forecast comes to fruition

  • For every 1% that returns is an extra $14 billion annually

  • Every 1% return could equate to 41,198 jobs across travel, hospitality and wider industries (assumes average of $322,835 business entity revenue per employee (cfo.com)).

IS THE CONCEPT OF ROP BIASED TOWARD THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY

The workgroup all works in and around the travel industry. So yes, there is a natural bias, as we all want to see the travel industry recover.

However, our investigations on the value of human connection highlights non-travel industry related studies into the importance of face to face relations and success, while our own research and survey validated these studies, and from a respondent perspective showed little difference in results between those in the travel industry to those outside of it.


In fact as of April 1st 2021, when evaluating whether people would be more or less likely to leave their job if travel did not return, a greater proportion of respondents working outside the travel industry than those within it said they would be more likely to leave.

HOW DID YOU COLLATE RESULTS FOR YOUR RESEARCH?

As of 1 April 2021, potential reach for our survey totalled over 800k people.

We targeted people who travel for their jobs through paid targeted advertising, and sharing the survey on specialised social media (e.g. travel forums, LinkedIn groups).

The more respondents we have, the more accurate the results. Should you wish to partner together to help drive more results across the entire corporate traveler base, or just for your company please contact us.
